A close-up of some of the static items we displayed. In the far right foreground is the MODEL 704-8A with it's newly re-designed - and much improved - magnetic structure. The far right top unit is a Model 127-8A 12" direct radiator woofer. To it's left at the top is the Model 168-8A 16" Hi-Fidelity Woofer, and to the left front is a Model 145-8A Large Format Compression Driver with a Pascalite diaphragm. In the far left top corner is the Model 165-8G 16" Bass Horn Driver. Oh - and that's an Altec Model 711A FM Receiver from 1965 powering the Stonehenge V's - everyone loved it, and how NICE it sounded!:

The STONEHENGE V's sounded EXCELLENT - very transparent and effortless in their ability to reproduce even the slightest nuances in the program material!

"The Bass Is Back!"

When playing the 4th cut of the soundtrack from "Star Trek - The Motion Picture", you could FEEL the 52" bass drum as the percussionist played it the Jerry Goldsmith score! Whenever anyone heard it, their eyes would get wide and a big smile would come upon their face - it was impressive!

My sons and a friend went around for about 3 hours looking and listening to the systems and the comments from the attendees. According to their reports, most everyone thought the Stonehenge V's with their 704-8A's were the best sounding speakers there, followed closely by Dr. Earl Geddes' new loudspeaker system.

We had a good time and met a lot of nice people, and are looking forward to the next show - perhaps the Chicago Horn Club and/or the Rocky Mtn. AudioFest in Denver.

Very nice to see REAL speakers instead of the usual minithings on stands. Looks like real wood too!
No mention of the horns on the floor. Are these an upcoming Iconic product?

Aaaaahhh.....It's *so* good to see that the 604...err...704 is back!
And it's even better to hear about the listeners' feedback as it confirms what I've always been claiming: The Duplex still is one of the best sounding speakers. Todd, have you planned to establish a distribution channel to Europe?

Yep, that was really nice to see. If they sound as good as they look you've got a winner! Posted a link to this one on a Swedish forum right off. 'Have the same question as Homme de terre by the way.

Congratulations on Iconic's participation in the audio show. Very nice to see the Iconic products on public display.

Now, a Stonehenge system with integrated LF/HF switching amplifiers with a test mic input to a digital signal processor for crossover filters, CD horn equalisation and room correction would be VERY nice...

What's more, perhaps the 704-8A would be considered for recording control room monitors - despite the directivity mismatch between LF and HF drivers and attendent power response problems - with excellent DSP control on a rock-solid platform. Recording suites are becoming smaller, particularly with the proliferation of digital audio workstations (a la Pro Tools) replacing the traditional large recording desks. In these instances, a 704-8A system could work well for close-in mid- and quasi-near-field monitoring.

I'm certain Iconic has more mundane issues currently pending but we can always hope

One last issue: no grey paint on the 704-8A (or other LF driver) magnetic structures?

More importantly,congratulations, and thanks, on offering the most (or only) hospitality of any of the exhibitors. I'm a hick that doesn't get out too often, so the show, held in individual hotel rooms, took me by surprise; I just wasn't comfortable knocking on strangers' doors, and hangin' out in their rooms. Your open door, and Ozark hospitality were greatly appreciated, and your display was all I really cared about seeing anyway. Enjoyed the visit with you and the boys.

I second what bfish said. I liked the open doors, wealth of information and hospitality that Todd brung to Tulsa.

Some of the other vendors had some stuff too, but the closed doors didn't seem very inviting. Iconic is definately going to get some of my business - and soon.

Thanks for sharing the pics and the recap with those of us who could not attend. Nice looking stuff. I really liked the old Altec reciever. I've never seen one of those before.
Interesting that the floks here who attended didn't comment on the sound......

I'd really like to hear your duplexes. Having my own, it would be most revealing to hear what your improvements have done for them.
I have had mine apart, and can attest to the somewhat sloppy mfg. tolerances allowed in the early 80's. With the HF diaghphram out, I can see that the VC gap is not uniform. Mine are 904-8A's BTW.
And, given the TS parameters that you publish, I can see that they are closer to the 604-8H. And these will like a bigger box which will allow them to go lower.

If I heard them, and liked them, I'd be more than willing to part with mt 19's, and my 904's in order to buy a pair of yours that I could probably live with forever.
